Earlier this year, Beijing's Temple of Heaven provided the setting for an important moment in China-US diplomacy. Beyond the headlines, the historic site is also part of everyday Beijing – a place where families gather and traditions are passed on.

What begins with a traditional Chinese finger dance opens into a conversation about family, culture and how traditions are passed on. Having also grown up across different cultures, Merna reflects on how, across cultures and societies, there is much we share and much we can learn from one another.
