A flash of brilliant blue has caught the attention of birdwatchers in Tai'an County, northeast China's Liaoning Province. The rare white-throated kingfisher is a nationally protected species and is seldom seen in northern China. Its arrival points to improving local wetlands, where abundant food and healthy waterways provide a welcoming stop for wild birds.
