At least 21 Palestinians were injured in Israeli airstrikes across the Gaza Strip on Monday, according to Palestinian sources, as strikes continued despite a ceasefire, with Gaza's already devastated education system facing further collapse.

In the latest reported strike, an Israeli drone fired two missiles at the roof of a residential building near al-Shifa Medical Complex in Gaza City, eyewitnesses said. Mahmoud Basal, spokesperson for Gaza's civil defense service, said one person was seriously injured and taken to hospital.

Earlier, an Israeli drone struck a tent sheltering displaced Palestinians in central Gaza City, sparking fires and damaging nearby tents, local sources said. Basal said 10 Palestinians, including women and children, were injured, some seriously.

He added that eight others were injured in two Israeli strikes targeting a tent and a gathering of Palestinians in the al-Mawasi area west of Khan Younis in southern Gaza.

Meanwhile, al-Aqsa Hospital in Deir al-Balah said two injured people had been brought in following another Israeli raid targeting a gathering in central Gaza. There was no immediate Israeli comment on the reported raids.

According to Gaza-based health authorities, 1,372 people have been killed in Israeli strikes since the ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas took effect in October 2025, bringing the total death toll in Gaza since October 7, 2023, to 73,786.

Gaza's humanitarian crisis deepens

According to UN figures, about 90% of Gaza's population has been displaced, with many families forced to move multiple times. People are living in overcrowded sites amid severe shortages of food, drinking water, shelter and sanitation.

The prolonged conflict has also severely disrupted education. More than 720,000 Palestinian students have been deprived of access to basic education, Tunisian daily La Presse reported on Monday, citing Palestinian Education Minister Amjad Barham.

More than 90% of school buildings and 82% of universities in Gaza have been destroyed, Barham said at a conference on Palestinian childhood in Tunis organized by the Arab League Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization (ALECSO).

Barham highlighted the severe impact on Palestinian children and condemned the targeting of educational infrastructure. ALECSO Director-General Mohamed Ould Amar called for greater regional cooperation and announced plans for a joint Arab action plan with emergency protection mechanisms.

Separately, Naji Al-Naji, cultural adviser to the Palestinian Embassy in Egypt, said Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas will visit Cairo on Tuesday to meet with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi. According to the Palestinian News Agency, the two leaders will discuss the latest developments concerning the Palestinian cause.
