Airbus delivers first A320neo aircraft from new A320 assembly line in Tianjin. /CMG

Airbus has delivered the first plane assembled at its new Final Assembly Line in the northern Chinese port city of Tianjin – the second of its kind in China and across Asia.

China Eastern Airlines took delivery of the A320neo aircraft on Wednesday. The airline flies the largest Airbus fleet in the Chinese mainland, and in 1985 it took delivery of China's first Airbus aircraft, an A310.

The Tianjin line has been running since 2008, assembling and handing over 800 A320s. The second line will add capacity there and help meet demand from China and beyond.

Airbus now runs 10 final assembly lines worldwide: four in Hamburg, Germany, two in Toulouse, France, two in Mobile, US, and two in Tianjin, China.

The company's latest market forecast puts China's need for new passenger planes at 8,830 over the next 20 years – more than a fifth of the 42,060 aircraft it expects the world to require over the same period.
