Wang Yi calls on China, Brazil to strengthen strategic coordination, uphold multilateralism

China's top diplomat Wang Yi on Wednesday called on China and Brazil to strengthen strategic coordination on major international and regional issues, continue to stand on the side of international fairness and justice, and jointly uphold multilateralism.

Wang, a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and director of the Office of the Central Commission for Foreign Affairs, made the remarks during his meeting with Special Advisor to the President of Brazil Celso Amorim in Beijing.

Under the strategic guidance of the two heads of state, China-Brazil relations have achieved leapfrog development in recent years, Wang said, adding that the global, strategic and long-term significance of bilateral relationship has become increasingly prominent, making it a model of solidarity and cooperation among Global South countries.

As the largest developing countries in the Eastern and Western Hemispheres, China and Brazil should strengthen strategic communication and deepen strategic cooperation, jointly injecting stability into a world fraught with turbulence and change, and making new contributions to the peaceful development of humanity, he said.

Wang said China appreciates Brazil's decision to join the World Artificial Intelligence Cooperation Organization and stands ready to work with Brazil to advance the development of AI in a direction that is inclusive and universally beneficial and conducive to the well-being of humanity.

Wang also called on both countries to continue deepening cooperation across various sectors, achieve win-win results and boost their respective development and revitalization.

Amorim said Brazil and China should strengthen communication and coordination within multilateral platforms such as BRICS and jointly contribute to promoting world peace and development.

Brazil stands ready to work with China to implement the consensus reached by the two heads of state, advance practical cooperation across various fields and continuously enrich the Brazil-China community with a shared future for a more just world and a more sustainable planet, he added.

The two sides also conducted an in-depth exchange of views on issues such as the Ukraine crisis and the situations in Latin America and the Middle East.
