Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi held phone talks with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio on Thursday, during which they had an in-depth discussion focusing on high-level interactions between China and the United States.

Wang, also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, said that for some time, China-US relations have generally been moving along the track of constructive strategic stability set by the two heads of state, which is conducive to meeting the expectations of the international community.

Wang stressed that head-of-state diplomacy serves as the anchor for China-US relations.

The two sides should prepare for the next stage of high-level exchanges in the spirit of equality, mutual respect and mutual benefit, strengthen communication, advance cooperation and manage differences, he noted.

The two sides should respect each other's core interests and send a positive message that China and the United States are committed to advancing a constructive bilateral relationship of strategic stability and jointly promoting world peace and development, Wang said.

The two sides also exchanged views on issues including the situation in the Middle East.
