International media outlets have highlighted the growing influence of BRICS cooperation, saying the mechanism has become an important platform for Global South countries to voice their concerns and promote common development, while noting China's role in advancing cooperation among member states.

The 18th BRICS Summit was held in New Delhi, India, from September 12 to 13, coinciding with the 20th anniversary of the start of BRICS cooperation and drawing fresh international attention as the mechanism enters a new stage of development.

Several media outlets said BRICS cooperation has expanded from an initial grouping of emerging economies into a broader multilateral platform representing the interests of the Global South, with its importance increasing amid a changing international landscape.

India's IANS said the "Greater BRICS," consisting of 11 members and 10 partner countries, has become a driving force for a multipolar world, and noted that China has become the largest trading partner of many BRICS members and has contributed to steady growth in intra-BRICS trade.

"China's rise as the world's second-largest economy, India's global influence and expanding technology sector, Russia's energy resources, Brazil's agricultural strength, and South Africa's mineral wealth have given the bloc considerable weight and created a diverse economic portfolio," it added.

The article noted that BRICS has increasingly become a platform for Global South countries to express their concerns, with members often sharing common positions on issues such as opposing unilateral sanctions. It said the mechanism has become an important force in promoting changes to the international order and improving global governance.

The Daily Scrum News, a Canada-focused digital outlet, highlighted China's role in strengthening BRICS cooperation, saying China has supported common development and prosperity in the Global South through infrastructure development, trade, investment and technological cooperation.

Russia-based TV BRICS quoted Aleksey Maslov, director of the Institute of Asian and African Studies at Lomonosov Moscow State University, as saying that BRICS has developed into an effective platform for a new model of cooperation based on equality among countries.

Other international outlets observed that the importance of BRICS has grown amid geopolitical tensions, climate change and economic challenges.

The Indian Express said BRICS provides Global South countries with a platform to exchange views, express concerns and formulate common strategies, while noting the group's expanding representation and influence.

South Africa's Central News, citing President Cyril Ramaphosa, said BRICS cooperation has become increasingly important amid global conflicts and regional instability. Independent Online, another South African outlet, said the mechanism has gained greater significance as countries face challenges including geopolitical tensions, food and energy security risks and climate change.

Cuban news agency Prensa Latina quoted an Ethiopian official as saying BRICS cooperation offers new opportunities for Africa, particularly in areas such as agriculture, information and communications technology, connectivity, tourism and services.
