China was held to a 1-1 draw by Uzbekistan in the women’s football tournament at the 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games on Thursday, leaving both China and the Philippines on four points at the top of Group G.

China, who began its campaign with a 5-1 victory over Hong Kong, China, created several opportunities in the first half but fell behind in the 41st minute. Pan Hongyan saved Lyudmila Karachik’s effort from outside the area, only for Kholida Dadaboeva to convert the rebound and give Uzbekistan the lead.

Head coach Ante Milicic responded with three changes at halftime, bringing on Wang Shuang, Li Qingtong and Chen Qiaozhu as China increased the pressure.

The equalizer arrived in the 70th minute. Wang Shuang sent a cross into the area from the right, Wang Yanwen headed the ball back across goal and Zhang Linyan nodded it home to make it 1-1.

China nearly completed the comeback two minutes later when Wang Shuang struck the woodwork from outside the area. Li Qingtong also sent an effort over the crossbar late on, but Uzbekistan held firm to secure their second successive draw at the tournament.

China has four points from two matches and lead Group G on goal difference over the Philippines. The two teams will face each other on Monday.
