China has unveiled a package of measures to promote recreational vehicle (RV) tourism and unlock new potential in tourism and consumer spending.
The measures encourage local governments to develop distinctive RV travel routes and high-quality self-driving itineraries, while improving infrastructure for RV travelers. Cities and tourist attractions are encouraged to provide dedicated parking spaces and essential services such as water supplies, charging facilities and sewage disposal.
The measures also aim to make RV travel more convenient by addressing road access and parking issues. Local authorities are encouraged to take RVs into consideration when setting height limits at major intersections and public parking areas.

To make RV rental more accessible, the service life of small and compact self-propelled RVs used for rental purposes will be extended from 15 to 25 years, while that of towable RVs will be extended from 15 to 20 years, according to the measures.
Tourism businesses are encouraged to combine RV sales and rentals with travel services and develop customized products. RV rental companies are also encouraged to offer services such as deposit-free rentals and one-way returns.
China will also encourage the development of new-energy, smart and green RVs, while promoting safety standards and environmentally responsible camping.
