Around half the remains recovered from Gaza City's rubble this month were women and children, the head of the UN Human Rights Office in the Occupied Palestinian Territory, Ajith Sunghay, said on September 15.

Another 8,000 or more are still buried in the debris across the Strip. At the current pace, recovering them all could take more than a decade.

According to Sunghay, Israel has been obstructing excavation and forensic work, making identification harder and risking the loss of evidence.

CGTN Stringer spoke to residents in Gaza. One called on Israel to stop the war and allow aid in, and expressed hope that the international community would help recover the victims still under the rubble.
