Nearly 30 ancient painted sculptures once lost overseas are now on display at the Shanxi Museum, dating from the 10th century to the early 20th century.
They were donated to the Chinese mainland in 2024 by a Taiwan-based Buddhist organization and officially entered the Shanxi Museum's collection in 2025.
Many are fully three-dimensional sculptures designed to be viewed from all angles, a testament to the skill of ancient craftsmen.
