Yeping Village: The Chinese Soviet Republic and Mao's former residence

CGTN

02:21

CGTN's Ioana Gomoi visits Yeping Village in Ruijin, Jiangxi, where a quiet Hakka village used to be an early political center of the Chinese Soviet Republic.

A Hakka ancestral hall was transformed into the offices of the Provisional Central Government, while Mao Zedong lived and worked in a nearby Hakka residence.

There, just outside his room, a bomb struck a tree during an assassination attempt – but never exploded.

Today, the tree still stands. Just a few steps away, Mao's former residence remains – a quiet reminder of how close one moment came to changing history.
