During a performance in Changzhou, young musicians from China and US came together to sing “You Raise Me Up.” As the chorus began, conductor Mary Poling turned to the audience and invited everyone to join in. When the familiar melody filled the halls of Shanghai Datong High School, Chinese students in the audience quickly recognized the song and spontaneously joined the singing. For Mary, the most beautiful moments in music are those when everyone can take part. On stage and in the audience, one shared song brought everyone together.
