It started with a young American's viola. Since then, this melody has traveled through Western piano, cello, a children's ensemble — and through Chinese pipa, guzheng, yangqin, xiao, erhu, flute, and more. Over a dozen voices, from different countries, singing the same song.

Today, a piano flash mob adds a new note. The music rises in a crowd, passersby stop, and "Jasmine Flower" appears unexpectedly. No stage, no rehearsal — just music bringing people together.

Maybe this is what people-to-people exchange between countries looks like at its simplest: A melody, a moment of pause, and two sides drawing closer.

The music keeps traveling — and it's already found you.
