The Pinglu Canal officially opened for navigation on September 16, linking Nanning (the capital of south China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region) with the Beibu Gulf. The 134.2-kilometer Pinglu Canal is capable of carrying 5,000-tonne vessels and is the most navigable canal of its kind in the world.
