Chinese Vice President Han Zheng to attend general debate of 81st session of UN General Assembly

Chinese Vice President Han Zheng will attend the general debate of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York from September 24 to 26, a Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson announced on Tuesday.

According to the spokesperson, on the sidelines of the general debate, Han will attend the High-Level Dialogue on the Fifth Anniversary of the Global Development Initiative hosted by China, and meet with UN Secretary-General, the president of the 81st UNGA session, and leaders of relevant countries.

The spokesperson pointed out that at present, once-in-a-century changes are unfolding at a faster pace, while the international situation is marked by intertwined turbulence and changes, with various risks and challenges emerging one after another.

The United Nations is the core platform for global governance, and the general debate of the UN General Assembly provides an important opportunity for countries to build political consensus and coordinate multilateral actions, the spokesperson said.

This year marks the 55th anniversary of the restoration of the lawful rights of the People's Republic of China in the United Nations.

During his attendance, Han will comprehensively expound on China's views and positions on the current international situation, major international and regional issues, and the work of the United Nations, and introduce China's concrete actions in practicing true multilateralism and promoting world peace and development, the spokesperson noted.

China will work with the international community to restore the authority and role of the United Nations, build greater synergy for reforming and improving global governance, and jointly move forward in the right direction of building a community with a shared future for humanity, the spokesperson added.
