A young American coming to China may discover some unexpected things: How big a city can be; how building a bridge can seem to make progress almost every day; how a young person can walk around the city with friends without having to worry too much about their safety. Of course, they may also discover some less important thing - like why it can be so hard to find cheese here. These discoveries may sound ordinary, even trivial. But it is precisely these small details that can turn a country from something seen in news reports into a real society that can be seen, experienced, and understood. So, let's take a look at China through the eyes of three American students.
