Mid-Autumn Approaching: Jinfeng Temple, Where Scenery Meets Cultural Memory

Jinfeng Temple sits on the mountain of the same name, three kilometers to the west of Ya'an in Sichuan Province. Overlooking the Qingyi River, it was first built during the reign of Emperor Taizong of Tang and rebuilt in 1403 under the Ming emperor, Yongle. It was expanded with the addition of the Lanhui and Wangyue pavilions under Emperor Tongzhi of the Qing Dynasty. Its many buildings, with their curved eaves and carved beams, are set amid ancient nanmu and bamboo groves, with Moon Pool and Deer Bathing Pool adding to the sense of quiet elegance. Among its famous artifacts, Jinfeng Temple houses works of calligraphy by Mi Fu and Huang Tingjian, as well as an impressive collection of scroll paintings. In 2007, it was listed as a Sichuan Provincial Cultural Relic Protection Unit. With Mid-Autumn approaching, Jinfeng Temple offers a quiet, elevated spot from where to observe the full moon.
