China continued its swimming success at the Asian Games on Wednesday, winning six more gold medals as part of a 16-gold haul for the day. 

Zhang Zhanshuo won the men's 200-meter freestyle in an Asian record of one minute, 43.49 seconds. The Republic of Korea's Hwang Sun-woo took silver, while Japan's Tatsuya Murasa claimed bronze. The 19-year-old Zhang had previously won the men's 1,500-meter freestyle and also helped China to gold in the 4x200-meter freestyle and 4x100-meter medley relays.

Yu Zidi completed a sweep of her three individual events by winning the women's 400-meter individual medley in a new Games record of four minutes, 28.56 seconds. The 13-year-old led from the opening leg and finished 3.95 seconds ahead of teammate Ke Wenxi. 

Elsewhere, China's Yu Yiting edged defending champion Zhang Yufei by just 0.03 seconds to win the women's 100-meter butterfly in 56.41 seconds.

Peng Xuwei won the women's 100-meter backstroke in 59.30 seconds, ahead of Japan's Rio Shirai and the Republic of Korea's Kim Seungwon.

Tang Qianting added another gold in the women's 100-meter breaststroke, setting a Games record of one minute, 4.98 seconds.

China retained the women's gymnastics team title for a 14th consecutive Asian Games. The men also successfully defended their crown for a third straight edition.

On the women's side, Ke Qinqin, Zhang Yihan, Du Siyu, Zhang Qingying and Qiu Qiyuan trailed Japan by 1.9 points after the vault.

China fought back on the uneven bars, with Du Siyu helping them move 0.799 points ahead. 

They extended their lead on the balance beam, with Zhang Qingying posting the highest score on the apparatus.

China stayed steady on the floor to finish with 166.462 points. Japan took silver, while DPRK claimed bronze.

On the men's side, Zhang Boheng, Lan Xingyu, Zou Jingyuan, Sun Wei and Tian Hao combined for 255.095 points, finishing 1.269 points ahead of Japan, who took silver. Chinese Taipei completed the podium.
