China is expected to see 650 million cross-regional passenger trips during the upcoming Mid-Autumn Festival holiday, a transport official said on Thursday.

Speaking at a press conference held by the State Council Information Office, Li Yang, vice minister of transport, said passenger travel is expected to be slightly higher than usual during the holiday. Daily travel is projected to average about 220 million trips.

Travel is expected to be driven mainly by visits to family and friends. Short trips to nearby destinations, including rural areas, are also likely to prove popular.
