China's first offshore wind project to deploy 18-MW turbines at scale is now fully operational in Yangjiang, south China's Guangdong Province.

It has 33 ultra-large turbines, each with a 292-meter rotor diameter and a swept area of about 66,000 square meters – roughly nine football pitches.

The project is expected to save some 1.92 million tonnes of standard coal and cut carbon dioxide emissions by around 5.1 million tonnes a year. By scaling 18-MW turbines, China is pushing wind energy engineering forward.
