A new-generation smart metro train from China made its global debut during the 15th InnoTrans rail technology exhibition in Berlin, Germany.

The exhibition, held from September 22 to 25, has attracted more than 3,000 companies from 59 countries and regions, with 180 global debuts on display. More than 200 Chinese companies are participating. Artificial intelligence (AI) and new energy technologies are among the key focuses of the event.

The Chinese metro train integrates digital technologies with intelligent systems and applies embodied intelligence to the rail transit sector for the first time.

Equipped with more than 600 sensors, cameras, radars and an onboard computing platform, the train can monitor its operating environment and vehicle status in real time. AI is used to help identify abnormalities and provide early warnings of potential faults.

The use of lightweight materials and the integration of multiple systems also help reduce energy consumption.

Frank Spörl, global business field manager for rail technology at TÜV Rheinland, told CMG that the train integrates a range of new technologies and represents an example of how artificial intelligence can be applied to rail transit.

He said AI could help drive research and development in the railway industry and promote the integration of different systems.
