Shahu (Sand Lake) Scenic Area in Pingluo County of Shizuishan City, northwest China's Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region is leveraging its distinctive landscape of coexisting sand and water to diversify its water- and desert-based attractions, injecting fresh momentum into its cultural tourism sector.

The vast expanse of Shahu's waters is dotted with cruise boats weaving through the reeds, while novel water activities such as flyboarding and jet ski surfing enjoy great popularity. In contrast, the sand dunes present a lively scene of their own, where visitors either ride camels to take in the view from above or drive off-road vehicles across the rolling dunes. Meanwhile, at the petting zoo, miniature horses, alpacas and other animals interact closely with children, drawing numerous families to linger.
