The Ethiopian army said Thursday that it had killed 272 fighters from the Tigray People's Liberation Front who launched an offensive in Amhara, the country's second-most populous region, AFP reported.

"Government forces launched a counter-offensive that inflicted heavy personnel and equipment losses on the (Tigray People's Liberation Front)," the Ethiopian National Defence Force said in a statement posted in Amharic on Facebook, adding that "272 were killed and 260 were wounded."
