Traditional, Western medicine can strengthen global health resilience together

CGTN

Muhammad Shahbaz, president of the China-Pakistan Medical Association and executive director of the World Health Organization (WHO) Traditional Medicine Foundation, pointed out that global health and healthcare should not be limited to a single therapeutic approach. Instead, efforts should be made to promote the integration of traditional medicine and modern Western medicine.

He called on the WHO to take the lead in fostering collaboration among major traditional medicine systems worldwide, including traditional Chinese medicine, Ayurveda and Unani medicine, to develop unified policies and guidelines for diagnosis and treatment.

Drawing on the practical experience of the China Anti-Cancer Association, he also called for greater cross-border technical exchanges and physician training so that integrated traditional and Western medicine approaches can benefit more people around the world and collectively strengthen the resilience of global health systems.
