Asian Games | China wins 100th gold; 36-year-old record falls

China reached the 100-gold mark at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games on Saturday as its shooters swept both women's 50m rifle three positions titles.

The milestone came when Han Jiayu, Zhang Liyuan and Wang Zifei defended China's title in the team event with 1,773 points, one point shy of the world record. Han led the team with 594 points, followed by Zhang on 591 and Wang on 588. India took silver with 1,763 points, while Kazakhstan finished third with 1,754.

Han then added the individual title, edging teammate Zhang by 0.2 points in a close finish.

Han and Zhang were outside the top two early on before moving into medal positions during the standing stage, setting up a final-shot battle between the two Chinese shooters. Zhang led by 0.4, but Han responded with a 10.5 while Zhang scored 10.1.

Han finished on 359.0 points for gold, with Zhang taking silver on 358.8. South Korea's Kim Jie-un won bronze.

The victory was Han's first individual Asian Games gold medal.

"I think I performed quite well this time," Han said. "I'm also honored to have contributed to China's 100th gold medal of the Games."

China's Su Wen broke a 36-year-old Asian Games record to win the men's triple jump on Saturday.

Su jumped 17.42 meters, eclipsing the 17.31m mark set by compatriot Zou Sixin at the 1990 Beijing Games. It was his first Asian Games gold. Japan's Manato Miyao took silver with 16.77m, while China's Ma Yinglong claimed bronze with 16.75m.

Su said his first two attempts had left him struggling to find his rhythm. "Before the third, I told myself to calm down and focus on my technique and takeoff," he said. "This is a new beginning for me."
