China is willing to maintain communication with the United States on artificial intelligence (AI), a Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson said on Monday.

Speaking at a regular press conference, spokesperson Guo Jiakun said China has consistently taken a constructive and responsible approach to participating in global AI governance and has continued to contribute Chinese solutions.

China has consistently advocated upholding the United Nations' central role in global AI governance and building a fair and equitable global AI governance system, Guo said.

"At the same time, we are willing to maintain communication and exchanges with the US through channels such as the China-US intergovernmental dialogue on AI," he said.

Such communication is an important way to promote the development of AI that benefits all and is used for good, Guo said, adding that it is also part of the efforts to build a constructive China-US relationship of strategic stability based on mutual respect, fairness and equality.
