A powerful storm had left one person dead and four others injured in the northeastern United States as of early Sunday morning, with widespread severe weather also triggering major power failures.

Real-time data from a US power tracking website showed that by 11 a.m. on Sunday, more than 150,000 people in the region had lost electricity: over 68,000 in New Jersey and about 40,000 in New York State, with additional outages in Connecticut, Massachusetts, and Pennsylvania. The large-scale blackouts brought normal life to a standstill for residents in many areas.
