China's self-developed deep-sea robot set sail from Weihai Port in Shandong Province, on the east coast, on September 28, bound for a joint expedition in the South China Sea.

The robot packs a 7-axis hydraulic arm and more than 30 core technological breakthroughs. It's built for complex work at depths of 4,500 meters – from oil and gas development to underwater sampling and salvage.
