The Dashixia Water Conservancy Project in northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region has begun generating power, with its first units connected to the grid, China Energy Engineering Group said Tuesday.

The project features the world's highest concrete-faced sand and gravel dam, with a total capacity of 750,000 kilowatts.

Units 1 and 2 are now online, while unit 3 is expected to be running by the end of the year.
