In 1934, the Red Army set out on the Long March. Among them was a group of young women – Ai Ping was one of them. She was about 16 when she first saw female Red Army soldiers, and in that moment she knew: she wanted to join.
Snow-capped mountains, marshlands, 12,500 kilometers – she walked every step of it. Years later, her son Liao Jiayi picked up a brush and painted his mother's story, canvas by canvas: the road she seldom spoke of, the youth she could never return to.
