Straddling two counties in two provinces - Ningnan in Sichuan and Qiaojia in Yunnan - is a hydropower plant equipped with the largest turbines in the world. The second of four cascade stations on the lower Jinsha River, the Baihetan Hydropower Station has a total of 16 units, each with a one gigawatt generating capacity. Fully operational since December 2022, the plant is capable of producing 62.4 billion kWh of electricity annually, saving almost 20 million tonnes of standard coal and reducing CO2 emissions by over 50 million tonnes a year.
