Exclusive: ATP CEO Eno Polo eyes change as China Open celebrates its 20th edition

This year marks the 20th edition of the China Open, and ATP Tour CEO Eno Polo, who recently celebrated one year of being in the role, has made the journey to Beijing for the tournament. The former Kenyan tennis player sat down with Sports Scene's Zhu Mandan to discuss the shifts he has witnessed in the sport's global evolution.

Born and raised in the East African nation of Kenya, Polo has an extensive background in tennis, having represented the Kenyan national team in Davis Cup competition before transitioning to a career in international business. He stepped into the role previously held by Massimo Calvelli, who resigned as CEO in June 2025 after over five years of leadership.

Reflecting on his first year at the helm of the ATP, Polo addressed the controversial calendar reduction that has sparked debate among players and fans alike. 

He lauded China's pivotal role in advancing the sport globally and expressed optimism about the prospects of Chinese male players breaking into the ATP top ten. The 59-year-old also highlighted the importance of nurturing tennis' next generation of fans.
