A nation in bloom: China's 77th National Day

China is celebrating its 77th National Day with festivities across the country on October 1.

In Beijing, the nearly 300-year-old Glazed Pavilion in Beihai Park opened to the public for the first time in decades.

In Taiyuan, giant flower displays nearly 8 meters tall filled the city center, and in Qinghai, a hot-air balloon lifted a huge national flag into the sky.

In the Taihang Mountains, a flag measuring 52 by 34 meters was unfurled along a cliff walkway.

In Yunnan, thousands joined the Munao Zongge dance, a festival on the national heritage list.
