How a discussion platform helps voices be heard and issues solved

In Maizidian Street, Chaoyang District of Beijing, commercial areas interweave with residential compounds. Home to residents from more than 60 countries, the neighborhood also sees thousands of delivery riders traveling through every day. This diversity poses unique challenges for community governance.

Conflicts arose time and again. Local residents complained that delivery e-bikes blocked apartment entrances and that honking disrupted their peace. Meanwhile, riders faced real headaches: a shortage of charging points, cumbersome access registration procedures and fines for delayed orders during peak hours. Both sides had legitimate grievances, making it difficult to strike a balance.

To break the deadlock, the subdistrict launched the "MAI HOME" discussion platform. Rider representatives, residents, merchants and community staff meet to discuss neighborhood problems and co-design solutions, showing how grassroots consultation can help resolve neighborhood frictions and foster harmonious coexistence.
