The International Monetary Fund (IMF) on Thursday welcomed the positive outcomes from the latest China-US economic and trade consultations, praising the progress as a key driver for global trade predictability.
Following the eighth round of talks in New York and Washington, China and the United States agreed to extend their bilateral trade and economic arrangement – first agreed in Kuala Lumpur and originally set to expire on November 10, 2026 – until January 10, 2027.
"We very much welcome the extension of the truce or the agreement," IMF's Communications Department Director Julie Kozack told reporters at a press briefing. "This is important because it helps enhance the predictability of the trading environment, and that's an important achievement."
Kozack added that the multilateral lender will continue monitoring developments between the world's two largest economies.
