Ninety years ago, the Red Army passed through Guizhou during the Long March, making its way across mountains and deep valleys. Ninety years later, modern bridges now span the same rugged landscape, transforming the way people travel through the region.

Located in southwest China's Guizhou Province, the Huajiang Grand Canyon Bridge rises 625 meters above the river below, making it the world's highest bridge. Its 1,420-meter main span is also the longest among bridges built in mountainous areas worldwide. Stretching 2,890 meters in total, the bridge has cut travel time across the canyon from more than two hours to around two minutes.

The project has achieved a number of technological breakthroughs, including in wind-resistant design and construction at great heights. It has received 21 authorized patents, while several of its technological achievements have been incorporated into China's national bridge construction standards, providing valuable technical references for bridge construction in mountainous regions.

From the Long March route that crossed Guizhou's mountains 90 years ago to today's record-breaking bridge spanning the canyon, the way people cross this landscape has changed, but the drive to keep moving forward remains.
