Guangdong takes the lead as National Day box office tops 460 mln yuan

China's 2026 National Day holiday box office has surpassed 466 million yuan (US$69.5 million), including pre-sales, as of 14:30 p.m. on October 3, according to Chinese movie data platform Beacon Pro. The holiday movie season runs from October 1 to 7, with Traces of Justice, Mr. & Mrs. Pardon and Peppa Pig: Perfect Holiday currently ranking among the top three in box office earnings.

Guangdong Province in south China led all provincial-level regions with over 57 million yuan (US$8.5 million) in box office revenue as of 14:30 p.m. on October 3, highlighting the province's strong position as one of China's major movie markets.

Among films produced in Guangdong, Mr. & Mrs. Pardon has emerged as a prominent title during the holiday season. The comedy follows a married couple who unexpectedly switch bodies and are forced to experience each other's daily lives. Other Guangdong-produced films, including the crime action film Go for Broke 2 and crime action comedy The Old Fox, add to the diverse lineup of local productions.

Meanwhile, Traces of Justice has topped the daily box office for two consecutive days during the holiday period, with its total box office exceeding 181 million yuan (US$26.9 million) as of 14:30 p.m. on October 3. Based on the real-life story of Cui Daozhi, a recipient of the July 1 Medal, the Communist Party of China's highest honor, and a veteran criminal investigation expert, the film follows a forensic specialist who uses trace examination techniques to solve a series of difficult cases.
