China has completed the underwater jacket of its first offshore carbon-injection gas platform, in the Dongfang 1-1 gas field off Hainan Province in the country's south on October 4. The 77-meter steel structure weighs nearly 8,000 tonnes and was slid off a barge and set upright at sea. Once online, the project can store over 1 million tonnes of CO2 underground every year.
