Firefighters battle wildfires burning through forested areas in Iranduba, a municipality near Manaus, the capital of Brazil's Amazonas state, as flames spread through the Amazon rainforest.
In Amazonas state, the fire department reported a more than 300% increase in registered fires in September compared to the same month last year. Almost all were reportedly caused by humans – slash-and-burn agriculture, discarded cigarettes and small fires getting out of control.
