On the football pitch, China ended a 28-year wait for an Asian Games men's football medal by beating Uzbekistan 4-3 on penalties in the bronze-medal playoff following a 2-2 draw.

It was also China's first medal in the event since the men's football tournament adopted an under-23 format in 2002. Overall, it was a fourth medal for China at the Asian Games in men's football following a 1978 bronze, 1994 silver and 1998 bronze.

China goalkeeper Li Hao saved two penalties in the shootout before Peng Xiao converted the decisive spot kick.

China secured the bronze after Uzbekistan fought back to level the game at 2-2 and force a shootout.

Sports Scene's Jiang Mengxi spoke to China's Spanish coach Antonio Puche after he led the squad to bronze in Nagoya.
