China's National Day holiday box office surpassed 800 million yuan ($119.32 million), including pre-sales, by the fifth day of the seven-day break, according to data from online ticketing platforms.

From comedies such as Mr. & Mrs. Pardon and crime suspense films such as Traces of Justice to family-friendly animation Peppa Pig: Perfect Holiday, cinemas are offering moviegoers a wide range of choices.

However, the films are not only drawing audiences to cinemas. They are also inspiring people to visit the cities and locations where they were filmed, adding new destinations to the holiday travel scene.

The Shitanjing Industrial Cultural Tourism and Film Town in northwest China's Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region is one example. With the rising popularity of the film Once Upon a Time in the Middle East, the town, which served as the filming location for key scenes, has also attracted growing public interest.

Once a major base of the country's coal industry, the Shitanjing town has transformed into a sizzling travel site under the "film+" model. Signs written in foreign languages, abandoned factories and mining sites give the town an authentic sense of age and decay. The distinctive setting also helps visitors reconnect with the atmosphere of the film, making them feel as if they have stepped into its story.

Other popular destinations also include Foshan and Jiangmen in Guangdong Province, where Mr. & Mrs. Pardon and Go for Broke 2, respectively, were filmed.
