China's competition climbing star Zhang Yuetong claimed gold in the women's boulder event and bronze in the lead event at the recently concluded Asian Games in Japan. She spoke to Sports Scene Editor Shen Xiang about what the two Asian Games medals meant to her, touched on adjustments she had to make for the two separate events and also highlighted her preparations for the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles.
23-year-old Zhang regretted not completing the fourth route in the boulder final, but said she was more relaxed in the lead event after focusing mainly on the boulder event over the past two years.
She said she would lean towards focusing on the boulder event at the Los Angeles Olympics, while also aiming to qualify for the lead event. She hopes to compete in the World Cup and World Championships before next year's Olympic qualifiers.
