A low rainbow arched between the earth and the mountains over Hohhot City, north China's Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. Awestruck onlookers reached for their cameras. 

A low rainbow is an optical phenomenon that forms when the sun is low and there's abundant moisture near the ground. Sunlight is bent and split by water droplets in the air, making the arc visible.
