Shanghai's toilet reform improves quality of life

Can you imagine some people still have to empty their chamber pots each morning in the city of Shanghai? Shanghai is known for its soaring skyline and modern urban infrastructure. Yet until recently, some residents were still living in buildings dating back to the 1950s, without private toilets. Many households shared one toilet and every morning, they had to carry chamber pots outside to empty them. That decades-old problem was finally addressed last year through the city's residential renovation programs.
