China's Bayan Oilfield in north China's Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region has achieved a record daily crude oil output of 5,080 tonnes, surpassing 5,000 tonnes for the first time, China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC) said Wednesday. The milestone marks a new stage in boosting reserves and production at CNPC's Huabei Oilfield.
Located in the Hetao Basin, the Bayan Oilfield's main reservoirs lie more than 5,000 meters underground, making exploration and development particularly challenging. Since the first high-yield industrial oil well was drilled in 2018, Huabei Oilfield has advanced exploration into deeper formations and identified integrated reserves on a 2-billion-tonne scale.
