Bathed in the autumn morning light, the Lhalu Wetland National Nature Reserve, known as the "Lungs of Lhasa," unfolds like a living painting.

Located in the heart of Lhasa City, southwest China's Xizang Autonomous Region, Lhalu Wetland sits at an altitude of 3,650 meters and covers 12.2 square kilometers. It is the world's highest and China's largest urban inland natural wetland.

As of January 2026, the wetland is home to 80 species of insects, 435 species of plants, and 167 species of birds. It plays an important role in beautifying Lhasa's environment, increasing oxygen levels in the air, improving the urban climate and purifying water quality.
