China's Tianwan nuclear power plant has connected its No. 7 unit to the grid for the first time. The unit, based on third-generation nuclear technology, is designed to last 60 years and will generate nearly 10 billion kilowatt-hours a year. Once all units at the base are running, total capacity will pass 9 million kilowatts, cutting CO2 emissions by 57.4 million tonnes a year.
