China sees 2.14 bln cross-regional trips during National Day holiday

China recorded an estimated 2.14 billion cross-regional passenger trips from October 1 to 7 during the National Day holiday, with an average of 306 million trips per day, according to the Ministry of Transport.

Road travel remained the main mode of transport, accounting for more than 1.96 billion trips. Nearly 80% of road trips were made by private vehicles, while traffic involving new energy vehicles increased 35% year on year.

China's railway sector handled 152 million passenger trips during the seven-day holiday, according to China State Railway Group. Daily passenger traffic exceeded 20 million on six of the seven days.

Foreign arrivals remained strong during the National Day holiday, with 682,000 entries by foreign nationals recorded in China, up 5.4% year on year, according to the National Immigration Administration. 

Meanwhile, 505,000 entries were made under visa-free policies, up 9.2% from the same period last year.
