The first wind power project in Ngari Prefecture, southwest China's Xizang Autonomous Region, has entered the grid connection commissioning phase after the installation of all 10 turbines. Located in Gerze County at altitudes ranging from 4,600 to 4,800 meters, the 50-megawatt project will be connected to the grid by the end of 2026.
Crews battled subzero temperatures, strong winds and hail by monitoring wind speeds in real time and adjusting construction plans. Once fully operational, the project is expected to generate 180 million kilowatt-hours of electricity annually and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by about 150,000 tonnes.
